Super rare and sought after species of fairy wrasse known for its vibrant coloration and peaceful nature in reef aquariums. It is native to the remote reefs of northwestern Australia, making it a challenging but rewarding fish for experienced aquarists.
Key Characteristics:
• Appearance: Males display a dark bluish-green head, a bright yellow horizontal body stripe, and a pinkish-red body with a pale pink belly. Females are greenish-brown with fine blue spots.
• Size: They typically reach about 3 inches (8 cm) in length.
• Natural Habitat: Randall's Fairy Wrasse inhabit coral and rubble bottoms at depths of 30-130 feet (10-40 m), feeding on zooplankton.
• Reef Compatibility: They are generally considered reef-safe, but may nip at small crustaceans.
• Temperament: They are peaceful and can be kept in a community aquarium with other peaceful fish.
• Rarity: This species is rarely seen in the aquarium trade due to its remote collection location and specific habitat requirements.
Aquarium Care:
• Tank Size: A minimum of 75 gallons is recommended for a harem of one male and several females.
• Tank Setup: Provide ample rockwork with crevices and caves for hiding and resting.
• Diet: They thrive on a varied diet of meaty foods (mysis shrimp, squid, fish flesh, etc.) and algae-based foods.
• Jumping: They are known jumpers, so a tight-fitting lid is essential.
