Radiata Lionfish (4")
Radiata Lionfish (4")
Pterois radiata The Radiata Lionfish has red, white, and black vertical stripes along the body; large, fan-like pectoral fins; and tall, quill-like dorsal fins. A 30 gallon or larger aquarium with numerous hiding places is suitable. It will hide while acclimating to its new environment, but once acclimated, will remain in the open more and more. Cannot be kept with small fish that can fit into its mouth, or with very aggressive triggers or groupers who will nip at its spines. The top spines are venomous, causing reactions similar to a bee sting. To treat the sting, soak the affected area in hot water, as hot as you can tolerate. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention. The Radiata Lionfish diet consists of meaty foods such as live shrimp (including ornamental shrimp), live fish, and large pieces of squid.
