Pseudochromidae (Dottybacks)
Natural Range: Western Pacific Ocean
Diet: Crustaceans, small fish, bristleworms
Natural History: The Queensland dottyback is found in recesses and crevices of tidepools and lagoons. It is most often observed singly. Females have a grayish head whereas males have a reddish head.
Husbandry: The Australian Dottyback is very aggressive and should only be kept with larger angelfishes, tangs, triggers or other more aggressive fish. It will move gravel and sand by mouth to enlarge its hiding places. They will eat almost any type of food. It will attack and feed on ornamental shrimp, including mantis shrimp, in an aquarium.
Reproduction: This species has spawned in captivity.
