Tripodichthys blochii – Longtail Tripodfish
The Longtail Tripodfish (Tripodichthys blochii) is an unusual and captivating species native to the Indo Pacific. Known for its elongated tail and specialized fin rays that allow it to perch on the seafloor, this fish has a truly distinctive silhouette and an almost alien elegance that sets it apart from more common marine species.
In the aquarium, Tripodichthys blochii is calm, deliberate, and appreciated by aquarists who enjoy observing unique behaviors. It spends much of its time resting on its extended fins, using them like stilts while scanning for food. This species is carnivorous and readily accepts frozen meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine, and finely chopped seafood. Due to its slower nature, it should be housed with peaceful tankmates that will not outcompete it for food.
