Liopropoma sp. “Yellow Tail” (Undescribed form)

A deepwater Liopropoma form currently considered undescribed by science, occasionally appearing in limited deep reef collections from the Indo-Pacific region.

This fish is associated with mesophotic to upper deep reef zones (~80–120m), where it inhabits complex reef structures and rocky crevices. Due to its depth and cryptic lifestyle, it is infrequently encountered and rarely observed in situ, even during targeted deep reef surveys.

This “yellow tail” variant is part of an ongoing taxonomic discussion within the genus and is sometimes seen in the aquarium trade through specialized deepwater exports, particularly from the Philippines and surrounding regions.

Like other Liopropoma species, it is a cave-dwelling, reclusive fish, spending most of its time within rockwork and shaded areas.

In aquariums, it thrives in mature systems with abundant live rock, overhangs, and low-disturbance environments.
