Naso brachycentron – Humpback Unicornfish
The Humpback Unicornfish (Naso brachycentron) is one of the most impressive members of the surgeonfish family. Instantly recognizable by its tall, pronounced dorsal hump and elongated unicorn-like rostrum (in adults), this species makes a dramatic centerpiece in large marine aquariums. Its sleek silver-to-brown body is highlighted by subtle blue and yellow accents, giving it a refined yet commanding presence.
Native to the Indo-Pacific, this species thrives in spacious aquariums with strong currents and ample swimming room. Like other unicorn tangs, it is a dedicated herbivore, grazing constantly and helping to control nuisance algae. A diet rich in marine-based algae, nori, and herbivore preparations will keep this fish healthy and vibrant.
Quick Facts:
A true showpiece species, the Humpback Unicornfish is rarely seen in the aquarium trade due to its size and specialized needs. For advanced aquarists with the right system, this magnificent fish brings unmatched presence and elegance. |
