**FLYING GURNARD**
One of the most unique fish you’ll ever see, the Flying Gurnard (Dactylopterus volitans) is a true showstopper. With its armored body and massive, wing-like fins edged in electric blue, this bottom-dweller looks like it belongs in another world. Despite its name, it doesn’t actually fly, but it does use its pectoral fins to startle predators and search for food along the ocean floor.
These fish are peaceful but active, constantly exploring their environment. They prefer sandy bottoms where they can hunt for small crustaceans and invertebrates. In captivity, they need plenty of open space and a diet of meaty foods like shrimp, small crabs, and fish.
If you’re looking for something truly different, the Flying Gurnard is a one-of-a-kind addition to your aquarium.
